Surfing Nosara Foundation
Location: Nosara, Costa Rica
Synopsis: The Surfing Nosara Foundation is a non-profit working to improve the lives of the residents of Nosara, Costa Rica and surrounding areas by affecting change in the public schools and the community one project at a time. The public school system in Nosara lacks basic resources and infrastructure, leaving many families unable to afford basic supplies or textbooks for their children. The Surfing Nosara Foundation aims to bring textbooks and learning materials to ten underfunded elementary schools in the area.
Tecnico Maya Vocational School Project
Location: San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala
Synopsis: The Tecnico Maya Vocational School Project is a development project that will give the young people of Comalapa the tools they need to be competitive in the local job market. Using environmentally-friendly construction methods such as trash bottles, rammed earth, and earth bags, the school itself is a practical demonstration of how to reuse discarded materials. The locals who participate in the school’s construction have hands-on experience with these money-saving construction techniques. From courses in organic gardening to sustainable horticulture, young Comalapans will learn responsible stewardship of their local environment.
